Karen Olsen, MBA, BSN, RN, NE-BC, the Vice President and Chief Nurse Executive of Mission Hospital in Asheville, North Carolina, has implemented an additional way to reach out to her nursing team. This is one of many upcoming messages from the CNO Corner that Karen will periodically publish.

Early in 2016, Karen introduced a new role called the CNO Clinical Nurse Liaison. The role is Karen’s long-held dream for establishing an important link between executive leadership and direct care nurses. She designed the liaison role so that the selected individual will work closely with her and the nursing leadership team to facilitate shared-decision making, patient-centered care and contribute to important nursing projects, councils and initiatives, as well as help lead clinical professional practice.

After the hospital-wide application and selection process, Adam King, BSN, RN, CCRN, Nursing Unit Supervisor (NUS) in Coli Critical Care, was chosen as the first ever CNO Clinical Nurse Liaison at Mission Hospital.
